Dr Bogusław Breza born in 1962 in Kaliska near Kościerzyna, graduate of Gdańsk University in History (1986) and Law (1989). He completed his application to become a judge and passed the examination in 1992.
He began his professional career in 1986 in the Museum of Kashubian-Pomeranian Literature and Music in Wejherowo. He was promoted through all levels of this institute: from assistant to curator. He was the museum’s director from 1991 to 2007. He oversaw the general renovation and adaptation of its prestigious seat, the so called Przebendowski Palace in Wejherowo. He is the author of the general plan for organizing its collection and for the publication, popularisation and educational policy. He was a co-organizer of numerous scientific and popular scientific conferences, joint initiator and organizer of the museum’s cyclical events which continue to this day, such as the “Music in the Palace” concerts, the Jan Drzeżdżon literary competition and the publication series Kaszubska Biblioteka [The Kashubian Library]. During his time in the Wejherowo museum he was a member of the scholarly and programming boards of several cultural institutions, among them the Museum of Kociewie in Starogard Gdańsk and the Wejherowo Cultural Centre. In 2013 he became a legal advisor and carries out this work from his own office in Reda.
He is a member of the Kashubian Institute and the Kashubian-Pomeranian Association of which he has been on the governing body for several years, and from 2011 to 2016 he was president of the Reda branch.
His scholarly and popularizing interests concentrate on a wide interpretation of the history and culture of Kashubia and Pomerania. He is the author of several hundred articles on this subject, biographies of outstanding personalities of this region, co- author of numerous historical monographs dealing with Kashubian locations, editor of Dzieje gminy Wejherowo [History of Wejherowo Commune], Dzieje gminy Rzeczenica [History of Rzeczenica Commune] and conference proceedings Strajki szkolne na Kaszubach w l. 1906-1907 [School strikes in Kashubia in 1906 and 1907]. He has worked consistently with several local periodicals, currently Pomerania in which he publishes reviews of books on the subject of Kashubia and Pomerania. In 2016 he received a doctorate in history, defending his doctoral dissertation entitled Historia Miasta i Gminy Wejherowo w okresie międzywojennym [The Inter-war History of the Town and Commune of Wejherowo].
He is married to Renata née Ożańska, a dentist, with whom he has two adult children, Leszek (graduate of Gdańsk University in economics) and Sławina (graduate of Gdańsk University in English philology and law).
